Brexit bill: Parliament clears way for talks with EU

“We have been clear that the prime minister will trigger Article 50 by the end of March,” said Theresa May’s spokesperson. Theresa May can now start the Brexit talks but as per the reports, she is likely to wait until the end of the month. The EU Withdrawal Bill was passed with 274 votes to 118. Doing so within hours of the historic parliamentary vote risked a clash with a general election in the Netherlands, where EU membership is a key electoral battleground.

The bill is expected to receive Royal Assent and become law on Tuesday.

This means Theresa May is free to push the button on withdrawal talks – now expected in the last week of March.
